Smart Contracts: Where the Code is the Law

Smart Contracts are digital contracts written in programming language which auto-execute on a virtual machine under a blockchain. They will revolutionise financial transactions (payments, loans, guarantees…) and contracts as we know these, challenging the role of legal and financial intermediaries (lawyers, attorneys, notaries and registrars). They represent a disruptive revolutionary technology related to AI and the IoT and pose a challenge as to their legal regulation.

Balance in Game Design

Description of the session:

Game Balance is a fundamental component in videogame design. Level difficulty as well as internal economy or narrative pace must be carefully regulated so that players can have an attractive and challenging game experience.

Through several practical examples, this presentation will review different scripting and component diagramming techniques, basic tools in producing balanced, enjoyable videogames.

He was to be the creator of several videogames, gaming platforms and educational table games for customers such as Alboan, the National Museum of Natural History, the University of the Basque Country or the Municipality of Getxo. Parallel to this creative production, he also frequently participates in conferences and publications, proposing new forms of communication based on game dynamics.

Currently, he works as Lead UX/UI and game architect at Init Services, designing custom gaming systems (among other things).

Inspired by a famous book of the 90s dealing with communication problems between men and women, the presentation will explain the different ways of thinking in the world of computers and the industrial world, and different mechanisms will be presented in both interpersonal and technological terms to overcome the problems of communication existing between both worlds.

Computer scientist in general, IT personnel from industrial companies, industrial engineers, industrial plant managers, etc.

Joseba Enjuto is a telecommunications engineer with a Master’s degree in Technological Law. His career began in T-Systems, although he joined Nextel at the end of 2003. From then on, he has worked in the consultancy area of this company, where he has managed a multitude of projects in the fields of information security and IT service administration. Over the years, he has reconciled his post of consultant with that of Security Manager, and later, manager of the Corporate Control and Legal compliance business line, until he was appointed Consultancy Director in 2016. Since the start of 2015 he has also been Director of the itSMF ‘s Euskadi Regional Committee. Both posts prompt him to intense public activity revolving around the promotion of the best business practices with regard to cybersecurity and IT service management.

Tiki-Talka: Embedding Deep Learning Models on Edge Devices

In this session, we will build and deploy a complete deep learning architecture based on a Custom Vision solution running on an edge device: a minnowboard in this case. We will go for the view of a model that will identify originals against counterfeits, and then exchange the creation of this model for a docker image that we can embed into an edge device. Lastly, we will learn how to make sure the device updates automatically every time our data scientists deploy a new model version.

How Science Helps Art (and Vice-versa!)

Description of the session:

The talk attempts to demystify the idea that science and art are separate and even antagonistic, that one is either “artistic” or “scientific”. We will begin by talking about how very beautiful images can emerge from the most abstract mathematics. I will talk about my specific case and how I use everything I know about maths and physics to embellish my videos (and save effort). Lastly, I will present a case in which art has been inspiring scientists to better understand our universe.

In principle, any kind, although persons over 16 will understand better.

Jose Luis Crespo is a physicist who created Quantum Fracture 4 years ago, an animation channel devoted to showing how incredibly crazy the universe is. Currently, this YouTube channel has around a million subscribers and over 40 million visits as one of the most significant Spanish-speaking scientific information channels. Crespo has formed part of the information staff of the Madrid Institute of Theoretical Physics and has participated in the TV program, Órbita Laika.

25th Anniversary of the World Rally Championship Arcade Classic: Development and Preservation

Description of the session:

It has been 25 years since the mythical World Rally Championship arcade machine was launched by the Spanish company Gaelco, based on the rally driver Carlos Saínz, causing sensation in the recreation halls of the period due to its quality, game-readiness and addictiveness. Up until 2008, this arcade machine could not be preserved in the MAME emulator due to its complicated protection system. With the help of Gaelco itself, the RetroAction Association was able to preserve it and place it at the disposal of the general public. This talk boasts the presence of Fernando Rada, the principal developer of the arcade machine in 1993, and Miguel Ángel "Elsemi" Horna, a MAME project collaborator.

Fernando Rada has had over 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur and developer for software companies such as Indescomp, Zigurat and Gaelco. Numbered among his creations are mythical games such as Sir Fred (Made In Spain, 1986) or the World Rally Championship arcade machine (Gaelco, 1993). Currently, he is the advanced interface manager of Sngular, an international technological solutions supplier.

Miguel Ángel Horna “Elsemi” is one of the major reference figures in the MAME preservation project, with the longest expertise in converting classic recreational machines such as Pac-Man, Tetris or Pang into games that may be played on modern-day computers. Currently, he specialises professionally in adapting the console games of past generations to the consoles currently in use.
